Arab women have nicely kept beauty secrets and I will share with you 5 Arabic skin care hacks for beautiful and glowing skin.
1. Rose Water
Rose water is often used as a skin toner. It contains antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, which help soothe irritated skin. Not only does it smell good but it also naturally regulates the skin’s pH balance,as well as tightening the pores. Leaving your skin soft and toned.
To make your own rose water all you will need is:
- a few petals from a rose
- a pestle and mortar
- Pan ( with water)
- Grind the rose petals using your pestle and mortar, this is to release the petals’ natural oils
- Add the petals to your pan where the water is slightly boiling (on low heat)
- Keep the lid on and let the petals sit in the hot water until the petals loose their colour
- Drain the petals out and you are left with homemade rosewater!
You can apply it to your skin using cotton or a spray bottle. If you leave it in the refrigerator it can last up to 6 months!
Alternatively, I recommand this Rose water.
2. Olive oil
This is a personal favourite, as I often use it on my hair and skin. Olive oil has many wonderful properties, such as acting as an antioxidant, which prevents premature ageing. It is good for moisturising dry skin and helping those curls pop in the winter because we all know curls tend to be more difficult to manage during this time.
Olive oil for skin:
As a face mask you can mix olive oil with honey. Depending on how much you want, I tend to put half the amount of olive oil to honey. If you put 2 tablespoon of honey mix 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
How to apply on skin:
You can microwave the mixture or warm it up by placing the bowl in boiling water. Apply the mixture, warm, on your face and let it cool. Once you feel it has hardened and cooled, wash it off!
3. Mint and honey
Both mint and honey taste beautiful in tea and keep your skin fresh.
- Crush the mint leaves using a pestle and mortar
- add some honey
- mix
- Apply using a face brush or your fingers!
- Leave for 10 minutes and rinse off
4. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera feels great on the skin, as it helps increase the blood flow in your skin and has antibacterial effects. I find that using a fresh aloe vera plant and rubbing it straight onto the skin is more effective than buying products containing the aloe vera. Leave it on for around 10 minutes making sure to wash it off afterwards
Avoid the eye area.
5. Argan oil
Filled with Vitamin E, Argan oil protects the skin from the sun’s rays and prevents early signs of ageing. I often apply small amounts as I find it heavy on my skin . However, I find it great for hair masks which will be shown on future blog posts…
