How is Jojoba oil beneficial to hair and skin care?

What is Jojoba Oil?

The Simmondsia chinensis is a shrub, native to Northwest mexico as well as south west america. The seeds of this shrub are used to obtain Jojoba oil. Various methods can be used to obtain the oil from these seeds, for example: Mechanical pressing which could be followed by leaching, or leaching only.

Leaching is used to extract a substance from a solid which has been dissolved in a liquid. Whereas, mechanical pressing is used to apply pressure on a material, which in this case would allow us to extract a liquid (oil.)

How is it beneficial to skin care?

This oil is similar to the oil your skin and scalp naturally secretes: Sebum. Therefore, applying this oil on your face greatly moisturizes and soothes the skin. Balancing and controlling your skin’s sebum production. This is good news as overly oily skin can cause your can clogg your pores, often leading to acne. If you have dry/ easily irritable and sensitive skin jojoba oil may become one of your favourites as it is gentle in nature and will soothe your skin.

Not only can it moisturize, but it contains natural Vitmain E, its benefits just keep getting longer right? Vitamin E is a great antioxidant and antioxidants which protect the skin from external factors such as pollution which cause damage. As it has Vitamin E as an antioxidant jojoba will minimise the oxidisation of oil, preventing the clogging of pores.

How is it beneficial to hair care?

Jojoba oil is such a great moisturizer that its uses for hair and skin care are endless! Containing Vitamins C, B and E it will play a major role in strengthening, protecting and moisturizing your hair. Personally I am not a great fan of coconut oil for my hair, your hair can either love it or not but Jojoba Oil and Olive oil have to be two of my favourites. Their textures are similar and I have found them to be more pleasant and easier to apply on my hair.

DIY Face Mask with Jojoba Oil

You will need

  • 1 mashed avocado (easier if it is ripe)
  • 1 TBSP Jojoba oil
  • 1/2 TBSP Olive oil
  • 2 drops tea tree essential oil

Apply and let it sit for 25-30 minutes before shampooing to nourish your hair after a long week…

DIY Hair mask with Jojoba Oil

You will need

Apply and let it sit for 3-5 minutes ( I sometimes leave it on for 10 minutes because who really respects the time limit? 😉

It may seem strange to add strawberries but I personally love this face mask because it makes my skin look so nourished and rejuvenated at the same time. Face mask are nice to do once to twice a week after steaming your face for 4-5 minutes…
